May Programs and Events

Below is a list of upcoming Programs and Events that we email out each month. If you are interested in joining our email list please email Tina Lovejoy at tina_lovejoy@ncsu.edu or call 828.757.1290. Thank you.

Growers, Neighbors, & Friends,

Spring is here, the Farmers Markets are opening, and there is excitement in the air. This is an exciting time, we (NC Cooperative Extension) are celebrating our centennial this year. To promote the celebration, UNC TV is featuring segments about NC Cooperative Extension.  The first in this series is about 4-H.  The 9 minute segment can be viewed online at (http://video.pbs.org/video/2365228433/).

I also want to share a video about the poultry industry that features a local poultry farmer, Phillip Wike.  Phillip farms in the Kings Creek community and raises chickens, but also cattle, corn, and hay.  I think you will enjoy the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c90-9GHBjxA&sns=em).

Finally, if you have kids or grand kids that are seeking summer experiences, please have a look at our 4-H Summer Exploring camps. I am excited about the learning opportunities we will be providing for youth in Caldwell County this summer. We are offering a “Farm to Fork” class, “picking and preserving”, and a week of exploring agriculture in Caldwell County.  For a complete listing of 4-H Summer Exploring visit (http://caldwell.ces.ncsu.edu/2014/04/292488/).

Listed below are programs and events taking place this month.  I feel these are of general interest. Sincerely – Seth
