Plant a Row For the Hungry (PAR)
A Caldwell 4-H led community servivce project to increase food security.
- We encourage backyard gardeners and farmers to donate produce to local food pantries.
- We empower families and institutions to impact their own food security through low and no cost vegetable plants.
- We nurture and sponsor a new generation of gardeners through school gardenes, church gardens, and 4-H garden projects.
OUR IMPACT:
Caldwell 4-H Plant a Row began in 2008. Four years later the annual donation exceeded 30,000 pounds to local food pantries! This year 3,500 vegetable transplants were given to gardeners commited to planting a row. We partner with 10 Caldwell County Schools. They have vegetable gardens, tend small orchards, make compost, and grow transplants. We participate in the goals of ‘Plant a Row’ through garden sponsorship, produce donations, public speaking, and participation in Farmers Markets. Plant a Row reconnects the community with its agricultural roots to sow generously.
