Fall Gardening Series Offered

Looking for ways to extend the harvest from your garden, or fill in empty beds you have cleared out from the summer? Are you interested in learning more about soils, fertilizers, and plant nutrition? Consider coming out to one or all of our fall gardening classes!
All classes will be held at 6pm – 7:30 pm, at the Caldwell Extension Center (Room 2; 120 Hospital Ave NE, Lenoir NC 28645). Classes are free and open to the public. You do NOT have to attend all of the classes; however we ask that you register in advance for the class.

September 12: Greens, Herbs, & Roots: Champions of the Fall Garden
From lettuces to collards, turnips to cilantro, fall is a great time to grow a variety of greens, and cool season roots and herbs. We will cover how to grow a diverse group of vegetables in the fall and techniques for extending your harvest into winter.
October 3: Introduction to Soils & Fertilizers
This class will cover the basics of soil science, plant nutrition, and fertilizers. Participants will learn best practices for soil sampling. This class will be useful for all types of gardeners and landscape managers!
**this class will last 2 hours**
October 10: Growing Garlic and Perennial Onions
Learn the essentials for growing a great garlic crop and all about perennial onions. Both of these are best planted in the fall in our climate.
