The weather is warming up and the flowers and trees are blooming a sign Spring has sprung. Spring is the perfect time to learn the art of home food preservation. N.C. Cooperative Extension, Nash County Center, will be hosting an Intro to Home Food Preservation series just in time for the 2019 summer harvest.

Home food preservation is a perfect way to savor all the wonderful flavors and nutrients of spring and summertime fresh fruits and vegetables. The process of preserving food at home will allow you and your family to have the ability to eat fruits and vegetables all year. Home canned foods bring nutritional value throughout the year. Proper canning procedures need to be followed when processing any foods being preserved for later use.

This program is a hands-on approach to the art of home food preservation. Participants will learn how to properly freeze, water bath can, and pressure can produce. The series will begin on Tuesday, May 21 and will meet from 6–8 p.m at the Coopers Ruritan Building. The series will consist of two meeting dates May 21 and June 4, 2019.

Registration and payment are due by May 17. The fee is $15 per person for the series and payment can be made at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Nash County Center, office located at the Claude Mayo Admin Building, 120 W Washington St., Suite 3031 in Nashville OR mailed to N.C. Cooperative Extension, 1006 Eastern Ave., Room 102, Nashville, NC 27856. Checks must be payable to N.C. Cooperative Extension.
