4-H projects cover a wide variety of topics from agriculture to the arts. Members participating in these projects develop life skills and gain new experiences. The many different project types allow youth to grow in their knowledge and skill sets while having fun doing it.
Youth create record books for their projects so they can keep track of their progress and growth. Record books help youth develop life skills that will help them in their future workplaces and while filling out college applications. This year we had 22 project record books turned in and 4 Portfolios turned in. Out of the 22 turned in 10 placed. Portfolios are like project record books but they cover 3 years of 4-H work.
The following youth have earned West District 4-H awards for their project work:
- Jordan Mitchem earned the silver award in Animal Science in the 13-15 age group.
- Reese Darress earned the bronze award in Animal Science in the 13-15 age group.
- Malachi Schwartz earned the silver award in Citizenship and Civic Education in the 13-15 age group.
- PJ Flint earned the bronze award in Citizenship and Civic Education in the 13-15 age group.
- Addie Dillon earned the gold award in Citizenship and Civic Education in the 16-18 age group
- Elijah Dillon earned the gold award in Environmental Science as well as Science and Technology iin the 13-15 age group.
- Thomas “Jaxton” Tayler earned the silver award in Healthy Lifystles in the 8-10 age group.
The following youth won Gold for their Portfolios:
- Jordan Mitchem for her Beef Portfolio.
- Addie Dillon for her Citizenship and Community Service Portfolio and her Leadership Portfolio.
- Elijah Dillon for his Forestry and Natural Resources Portfolio.
We’re so proud of all our members for the hard work they invest into their projects, and it’s fun to celebrate this group of youth who are being recognized for outstanding project record books in the 4-h West District of North Carolina. We are excited to see what everyone will accomplish in the upcoming year.
