Locally grown, pollinator-friendly plants; perfect for fall planting
Lenoir, NC- The Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers of Caldwell County invite the community to their annual Native Plant Sale on Saturday, September 27th from 8:00–11:00 a.m. at Caldwell County Extension, 120 Hospital Ave., Lenoir.
Shoppers will find region-ready, native plants that thrive in local conditions and support birds, butterflies, and other beneficial wildlife. Fall is the ideal time to get perennials (including trees and shrubs) in the ground because cooler weather shifts plants’ energy from shoots to roots. Instead of pushing out new leaves, they focus on building strong root systems that continue developing throughout winter, giving them a solid foundation for spring growth!
Lower temperatures and shorter days also mean less transplant shock compared to the stress of summer planting. On top of that, fall and winter typically bring more consistent rainfall, so new plantings require less supplemental watering.
By the time spring arrives, these fall-planted perennials and trees are already established and they’ll be leafing out faster, blooming sooner, and standing up to summer’s heat with greater durability.
What to expect- A selection of native plants suited for our region, grown by our EMG volunteers.
- EMG volunteers on site to answer questions about placement, care, and pollinator habitat
- Proceeds that fund local gardening education and community projects
