Our Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Stephanie Stevenson is happy to announce the following nutrition and food safety programming for the fall of 2023! Check out the program details below. Registration links will be uploaded when they become available.

  • Fall into Healthy – Tuesdays, September 19-November 7th5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Fort Benjamin Park. Carteret County Parks and Recreation and N.C. Cooperative Extension  – Carteret County Center is offering a free fitness and nutrition program designed for adults to increase physical activity levels and live healthier lifestyles through behavior changes and eating. Each session will contain an hour beginner’s fitness class followed by a nutrition and health class with food demonstrations and tastings. Register Online Now! 
  • Air Fryer Class – Monday, September 25th, 5:30 p.m. at the Western Carteret Public Library (230 Taylor Notion Rd, Cape Carteret, NC 28584). This class will educate you on air fryer features and safety tips, plus watch a food demonstration and taste some healthy recipes. Registration will be made through the library, call (252) 648-7728 or stop by for registration.
  • Butter Making Class – Monday, October 16th, 5:30 p.m. at the Western Carteret Public Library (230 Taylor Notion Rd, Cape Carteret, NC 28584). Have you ever wanted to make butter from scratch? Want to learn more about the history and science behind butter? Join us for “making butter in a jar” class. Registration will be made through the library, call (252) 648-7728 or stop by for registration.
  • Home Canning 101- Tuesday, October 17th, 10:00 a.m. the N.C. Cooperative Extension  – Carteret County Center, Room 306. This is a free workshop designed for those who wish to learn about canning as a home food preservation method. This curriculum introduces canning methods and discusses best practices for safe and quality home-canned products. After completing this class, participants will have the opportunity to join a boiling water (October 24th) and/or pressure canning class (October 31st). Register For Home Canning 101
  • Air Fryer Class- Monday, October 23rd, 5:30 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension  – Carteret County Center, Room 320. This class will educate you on air fryer features and safety tips, plus watch a food demonstration and have a meal. This class will be $10. Register For Air Fryer Class
  • Electric Pressure Cooker Class- Monday, November 6th, 5:30 p.m. at the Western Carteret Public Library (230 Taylor Notion Rd, Cape Carteret, NC 28584). Do you have an electric pressure cooker (ex: Instant Pot) or plan to get one? Not sure how to use it? Then come to this workshop to learn about pressure cookers, appliance features, safety tips, nutrition information and sample some electric pressure cooker recipes. Registration will be made through the library, call (252) 648-7728 or stop by for registration.
  • Electric Pressure Cooker Class- Monday, December 4th, 5:30 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension  – Carteret County Center, Room 320.   • Dining with Diabetes- Tuesdays, November 28th -December 19th at 10:00 a.m. at the Leon Mann Enrichment Center. Do you have diabetes or cook for someone or does? Then Dining with Diabetes is for you! This 4-session program includes: healthy recipes without sacrificing taste; cooking demonstration and recipe sampling; planning and serving sizing; reading food labels; understanding food groups; and healthy lifestyle advice. Registration will be made through Leon Mann Enrichment Center.
