2022 West District Activity Day at A-B Tech
West District Activity Day is a day for all 4-H’ers in the West District of North Carolina to present their projects and performances. District Activity Day is a 4-H Presentation public speaking competition for youth to present information on the topic of their choice. 4-H Presentations are one of the greatest ways to help a young person learn confidence in public speaking. Caldwell County had four participants excel in their categories, and they have qualified to compete at the state level. The counties in the West District are those in the beige area of the map below.
Zoë Smith earned a blue placing and has been invited to perform at North Carolina 4-H Congress in July. You can watch her performance below.
Addie Dillion earned gold in the Egg Cookery category. Egg Cookery is a cooking demonstration where 4-H members show off their knowledge of quality standards, size classification, nutritional value, preparation and storage, functional properties, versatility, and economic value of eggs through a presentation.
Elijah Dillion earned gold in Agricultural Safety and Health category. The Agricultural Safety and Health division can be any topic related to the health and safety of farmers, fishermen, foresters and any other agriculture workers. This allows 4-H’ers to make the connection between physical or mental health and agricultural work.
Jordan Mitchem earned gold in the Livestock and Dairy Production category. The Livestock and Dairy Production division exists to encourage youth to teach other youth livestock management techniques and educate audiences about issues facing the livestock and dairy industries by using visual aids and/or equipment.
To learn more about all the different categories that youth can participate in, please visit the North Carolina 4-H “Presentations” webpage.
All of these Caldwell County 4-H’ers are headed to the State level to present. We are so proud of each of them and wish them luck presenting at State!
