Collapse ▲County Activity Day is an opportunity for youth ages 5-18 to showcase their talents and knowledge in a variety of project areas. After registering, families will be contacted to schedule an appointment for their event. All appointments will scheduled May 13 during the 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. timeframe.
Please register for County Activity Day on this form by May 1.
All members and participants must be enrolled in 4-H Online by May 1, 2022 to compete. Youth ages 8-18 who receive a top rating (1st or 2nd in the age category and topic area) will be eligible to present at the West District 4-H Activity Day at in Rutherford County on Friday, June 16.
The 4-H West District includes the following counties: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, and Yancey.
Presentations
Caldwell County youth may receive assistance as they prepare for their presentation by registering ahead of the deadline.

Caldwell County can send two youth per age category per qualifying activity to District Activity Day. Some category winners earn monetary awards and/or medals at District Activity Day and the state contest.
4-H Entertains
The 4-H Entertains portion of County Activity Day allows members to demonstrate their creativity through the performing arts. Caldwell County can send two entries to the district showcase. Read more about 4-H Entertains, including event guidelines.
Cloverbud Show & Tell
This is only offered at County Activity Day.
SHOW & TELL – TIME LIMIT: 2 minutes
This division is for Cloverbud (ages 5-8 as of January 1 of the current year) 4-H’ers to give a talk about any 4-H related project or item. Props or a poster may be used. This is a noncompetitive event and every 4-H’er will receive a ribbon. An evaluator will be in the room to give 4-H’ers positive comments about their talk.
Other Activities
There are two additional activities, which are only available at the county level.
READING – TIME LIMIT : 5 minutes
This may be musical, dramatic, interpretive, humorous or another type of reading. Maximum time for readings for both junior and senior levels is 5 minutes. Use of a script is required. A copy of the script must be given to the judge. There are no team readings. The entry may be selected for 4-H Entertains at the district level.
EXTEMPORANEOUS – TIME LIMIT: (ages 9-13) 2-5 minutes and (ages 14-18) 3-7 minutes
Participants will draw two of the five questions provided ahead of the contest, and the member will pick which question to answer. The participant will inform the judge of the selected question and will then provide an answer. The judge is permitted to ask questions. There is no district entry for this contest.
