Collapse ▲The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) annoucned today they will extend remote ID enforcement for six months, according to their website. One recent survey of US pilots indicated that less than half of the unmanned aircraft would meet the remote ID standard by the September 16, 2023 deadline.
There are currently 20 FAA-approved remote ID modules commercially available. The Academey of Model Aviation (AMA) published a report to assist the aviation community with the FAA remote ID mandate. This report was producted by AMA’s Advanced Flight System Committee and titled Remote ID Module Status Report.
The final remoteID final rule was adopted by the FAA on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. This rule is now scheduled to be enforced starting March 16, 2024.
FAA’s stated purpose for remote ID is to provide law enforcement tools to address illegal UAV flight activity.
