Collapse ▲The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Caldwell County invite the public to join them for one last celebration of the season Tomato Blast: Celebrating Summer’s Bounty! on Friday, August 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Unity Park & Community Gardens in Lenoir.
This free, family-friendly event will feature a variety of tomato tastings, gardening tips, and hands-on fun for all ages. The evening kicks off at 5:45 p.m. with a Fresh & Flavorful Cooking Demo, where Extension Agent and Dietician Margie Mansure will share garden-to-table tips for making the most of summer’s produce. At 6:15 p.m., Horticulture Agent Sarah Christas will present Garden BOLOs, offering timely advice on August pests, plant care, and other seasonal garden challenges.
Guests can enjoy free tomato sandwiches showcasing the peak flavor of summer, take guided Pollinator Garden Tours to see what’s in bloom, and bring their gardening questions to the Ask a Master Gardener booth. Children can explore the 4-H Kids’ Zone, where garden-themed activities will keep the little sprouts entertained.
“This is our final community outreach event of the season, and we want it to be a celebration,” says Christas. “It’s a great opportunity to enjoy fresh food, learn something new, and connect with others who share a love for gardening.”
The event will be held at Unity Park & Community Gardens, 1419 College Ave SW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
